So you are getting ready to go for your new dental implants. Whether you are getting just one single implant or several of them, it is important to make sure that you are well aware of how to take care of those implants, and therefore yourself, right after coming home with them. To understand what you need to do, you need to review the following tips.

Do Not Disturb It

It is important to make sure that you are not disturbing the dental implant for a few days after it is first put in. Therefore, you need to make sure that you are keeping your tongue and fingers away from the dental implant. This will allow your new dental implant to set nicely in place.

Ice The Swelling

You might find that you will experience some bruising and swelling shortly after having your dental implants put in. This is normal and to be expected. However, you will want to make sure that you are keeping ice on the affected part of you face in order to help reduce the swelling. If the ice pack is too cold, you can always wrap it in a towel first and then apply it to your face.

Take Some Pain Killers

It is important to know that while you are probably going to experience a certain amount of pain, it should not be too over the top. However, you might want to have some over-the-counter painkillers on hand for when you get home from the procedure. Just make sure that you are following your dentist's orders and waiting for the medication you were given at the office to wear off before you take anything else.

Hold Gauze On Bloody Spots

There might be a little bit of bleeding experienced after the dental implant procedure. Carefully holding a piece of gauze in place will help keep the bleeding under control. Should you find that the amount of bleeding increases or does not stop after a couple of days, you will want to contact your dentist.

Now that you have a little better understanding of what to expect after getting your dental implants in place, you will be able to prepare for first few days you are home with your new implants. The more prepared and educated you are regarding what to expect once home, the easier the entire process will be for you.
